Google Analytics Update #2

As we learned earlier this year, Google Analytics is an extremely useful tool used to see how many people visit your site, where they are from, how much time they spend on your site, and many other things.  Through Google Analytics I’ve learned that 295 people have visited www.coleygib.blogspot.com, my blog has received 437 page views and the average time spent on my blog is 1 minute and 1 second.  I’ve also learned that one person from Australia, one person from Canada, and 293 from the US and more specifically I’ve learned my top three most popular states are Mass with 144 visits, California with 45 visits, and 29 visits from Virginia.

Some of the other things I’ve learned are my blog has received 273 (92.45%) visits from referring sites, 20 (6.78%) visits from direct traffic, and 2 (0.68%) visits from search engines.  Throughout my use of Google Analytics, I’ve learned that the more you Tweet, Facebook, and get your blog’s name out there the more people visit it.  When I tweeted my blog and facebooked it I had up to 91 pageviews a day, and when I stopped for a while, my pageviews fell to 3 or 4 a day.  Analytics taught me how to properly get my blog out there, and if you want to be successful in social media, you have to always be getting your name out there.

Exploding Carrots!

Today we placed some dynamite in between the carrots.  i learned how to mess with the colors and the burn/dodge tool until the dynamite became the color i wanted it.  These tools are extremely useful when adding something to a picture that was not originally there because you can re-size it correct the colors to make it look as if had been originally been there.  The dodge and burn are quite useful when trying to make the picture look as real as possible.  once you have re-sized it and re-colored it, the dodge and burn tools help you make the shading of the object perfect, and help you make it look like it had been there the whole time.  These tools are quite amazing and I will definitely be using them throughout my work in photoshop.

GOOGLE IS TAKING OVER THE INTERMANETZ!

When Larry Page and Sergey Brin first started Google in 1998 I doubt they were planning on creating one of the biggest, most successful businesses of all time.  Google was a major part in the development of the internet, and has taken over a humongous part of the world-wide-web.  Google is the most popular search engine on the internet, followed by Youtube, which is now owned by Google.  Google has pretty much has had such a large effect on how people use the internet, they've pretty much coined the term, "google it" which many people say when they want to know the answer to a question.  Google has become more than a search engine though...

Google has expanded over the years, helping people specify what they are looking for by giving them results of one specific area of the internet.  Google Images allows people to search for pictures, and just pictures, Google Shopping allows people to search a product, and see which online stores sell it, Google Earth allows people to see a 3D view of the earth, and any specific part of it in the world, the list goes on and on... here are some others...

Search

  • Books
Search the full text of books
  • Checkout
Complete online purchases more quickly and securely
  • Directory
Search the web, organized by topic or category
  • Earth
Explore the world from your computer
  • Finance
Business info, news and interactive charts
  • GOOG-411
Find and connect for free with businesses from your phone
  •              Images
  • Search for images on the web
  • Maps
    View maps and directions
  • News
    Search thousands of news stories
  • Product Search
    Search for stuff to buy
  • Videos
Search for videos on the web

    • Fast, searchable email with less spam
    • Translate
View web pages in other languages
    • YouTube
      Watch, upload and share videos

Google is always creating something new, and as they continue to expand their "secret goal" of taking over the internet, if you will, is becoming closer and closer.  Though I have not read into Google's future plans, it is quite obvious that they are going to try and become the provider for the rest of the internet.  It seems Google plans to almost become the internet.  From what I've heard is their goal is to be the first page that shows up when someone opens the internet and from there, you can go where ever you want, other search engines, websites, blogs etc.

I guess we will have to wait and see...

Who is visiting COLEYGIB?

So last Friday our Digital Media class setup up Google Analytics for our blogs.  Analytics is a free site created by Google which allows anyone with their own website, or blog to see who visits the site, where in the world they are from, how long they spend on the site, and much more.

"Google Analytics is the enterprise-class web analytics solution that gives you rich insights into your website traffic and marketing effectiveness. Powerful, flexible and easy-to-use features now let you see and analyze your traffic data in an entirely new way. With Google Analytics, you're more prepared to write better-targeted ads, strengthen your marketing initiatives and create higher converting websites."

It's really cool being able to see how people found your site.  As my blog is only starting out, I've only had 67 page views in all and the average time spent on my site is 31 seconds haha.  I also found out 2 of the 47 visitors i've had the past couple days were from Canada and the rest were from the US.

Google Analytics is definitely a useful tool for anyone with a blog or website.  It sparked some ideas of how to get my blog across the web while telling me that i've had 47 visitors in the past couple days.  It's extremely easy to use and takes no time to setup.  when you get a chance to check it out, or test it out give it a try because its pretty interesting.

And to end this post, heres a great song.

Twitter...

Twitter…

Twitter has become has become such a huge part of many peoples lives.  The way people communicate is changing and Twitter is leading the way.  On January 26, 2010 Twitter reached 75 million users and continues to grow at a rapid rate.  From presidential campaigning to protests against the government in Iran Twitter has had an impact in more ways than most ways people would think.

President Obama used Twitter to help his campaign in 2008 and 2009.  Twitter not only helped Obama get his name out, but helped him change the mind of many people possibly helping him win the race.  With people like Obama, newspapers, and magazines twitter has become one of the quickest ways to get the news and see what is going on in the world.

Twitter's popularity is a blatant way to see that the internet is an extremely powerful and useful tool in the political and social world...
